Our goal is to be the best, not the biggest. We’re aiming to be the most elite and educational fabrication shop. When you work with us, you become a part of our family.

Our Story

Randy Wiles and Bill Dubeau opened Capital Granite in May 2006 with a vision to help enhance the beauty and value of homes and businesses throughout the state of Michigan by providing the best natural stone products. “Our goal is to be the best, not the biggest. We’re aiming to be the most elite and educational fabrication shop,” said Wiles, Company President. “We’re rooted in a particular mindset, and we’re not going to sell you on something unless we genuinely believe it’s the right product for you. When you work with us, you become a part of our family.”

We understand how complex the building and/or remodeling process can be, so we’ve intentionally onboarded team members throughout the years that are nothing shy of being humble, caring, and easy to work with. Fabrication may be our business class, but customer service is our number one priority. We want to make every experience with us enjoyable, so we’ve built this business to guarantee that encounter. From someone personally greeting you on every phone call, to being engaged with one of our team members all the way from sales consultation to template and install, we want to give you the trust and comfort that you’re in good hands.

Our consistent growth shows that this vision is key to Capital Granite’s longevity. In 2006, we worked out of a small shop in Vassar along with a satellite showroom in Harbor Springs. Just two years later, we needed more space, so we moved to larger facilities in Bridgeport and Petoskey, where we reside today. Our Bridgeport location is the main hub of operation and offers a showroom, an outdoor slab warehouse as well as our main fabrication shop. The Petoskey location offers similar accommodations with a showroom and an indoor slab warehouse. This move is what took many of our employees, including Randy and Bill, back to their home roots – placing us into the same facility where many of them worked previously at Dixie Cut Stone & Marble, Inc.

“The best part of the job is seeing the different homes and projects that people build. Every job, every day, the scenery changes.”

— Bill DuBeau, Vice President

This connection, tied with the skilled employee base that we have retained over the years is what allows us to participate in some of the most elaborate jobs throughout the state. We don’t cut corners and we don’t look for the easy way out. When we produce a natural or engineered stone surface, our eye is on the details from start to finish. And it all stems from the additional steps that we decided to take throughout our process, starting from day one - like preserving the older tradition of performing detail work by hand. Though we continue to embrace technology, we strongly believe that high-tech machinery cannot match the quality that a skilled craftsman can achieve. Or maybe it’s the fact that we hone the bottom side of each piece so that any exposure that’s felt on an overhang is smooth and easy to clean. Seams are another big differentiator when you work with us. When a job starts on the saw bed, we operate with a philosophy that involves smart utilization of material but doesn’t jeopardize quality of the final product. We strive for a minimal number of seams, which often means elongated pieces that require more manpower to install, but also result in a more flawless finish. It’s details like this that you won’t find in most other fabrication shops.

A new countertop is a large investment, so we promise to do our best to ensure you find a material that suites your lifestyle. We’ve worked to invest and build an inventory base amongst both of our locations that provides a vast variety of materials and colors – largely in part because we believe that samples do not do a stone justice. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for at either of our locations, we hold many strong relationships with several suppliers throughout the state, that we can easily source from.

Pair all of this with our team that’s full of knowledge within the industry, and we promise to provide you with a sound product and an enjoyable experience that you’ll treasure for years to come. So, come join our family. We’ll teach you, be there for you, and will guide you every step of the way.

“This is a huge investment for people. There’s a lot of parts, appliances, cabinets and counters, and people turn to us for help. We’re not just selling the countertop. We’re offering our insight and experience.”

— Brandon Heinz, Sales Consultant
